Montgomery Gallery and Krevsky Fine Art : Collaborative Exhibition.

    Artists: Lots.

Comment by AB: George Krevsky joins forces with Montgomery Gallery to show exemplary examples of antique and period art-- often at bargain prices compared to what they were selling for ten or twenty years ago. You know all that contemporary art you're so stoked about? The stuff you think is going nowhere but up in price? The stuff everyone's abandoned everything else for to chase blindly after? Well perhaps it's time to revisit the bigger picture. Your hot new freshly minted "investments" are only gonna be hot and new for so long before they join all the rest of the art in The Great Creative Morass, one day to become antique and period themselves (never forget that).

Wanna buy ahead of the market? Antique and period art is where it's at. It's good, it's rare, it's undervalued, it's not going to stay undervalued forever, and it's by the best artists of all time-- proven artists, not wildcard contemporaries who may or may not still be in the mix the day after tomorrow. Time to snap out of your only-new-art-is-worth-it trance. Buy all the new art you want; there'll always be plenty to choose from. But at the same time, never forget the forerunners, and perhaps make an occasional foray into art history's Hall of Fame for an acquisition or two as well. It's a long game, my artful darlings. Play it wisely.

The North Point Gallery : Early California Art.

    Artists: Plenty.

Comment by AB: Continuing with installment II of my antique & period art expository, Alfred Harrison, the owner of North Point Gallery, is an acknowledged authority on Early California Art, a number of the finest examples of which he has on exhibit here. Again, prices are bargains compared to what they were ten or more years ago. Are you one of those collectors who likes to buy on the dip? Well, the dip ain't gonna get any dippier than it is right now. On top of that, there's far less of this art around than there are products of the seemingly endlessly infinite contemporary art deluge, innumerable examples of which are created every single day. Not only is the art on exhibit here the best of it's ilk, but it's also already proven, assured of its place in history, and exceptionally limited in quantity. No time like the present to add one or two pieces to your contemporary collection. Do the math and buy while you can. You'll be glad you did.

Sarah Stocking Antique Posters : Antique and Vintage Posters.

    Artists: Plenty.

Comment by AB: From the late 1800s through the 1970s, you'll find top shelf posters of all kinds here-- by many of the world's best known and most famous poster artists. Sarah Stocking is one of the premier purveyors of fine poster art anywhere. She's exceptionally knowledgeable and prices everything fair. You can't beat a combination like that. Are you a works-on-paper or print collector? Then you might think seriously about collecting some of these. Worth it.
