Fraenkel Gallery : Hiroshi Sugimoto - Acts of God.
Comment by AB: The centerpiece of the exhibition is a stunning photographic rendition of The Last Supper, extending nearly the entire length of the front gallery. Though the photograph was substantially damaged during Hurricane Sandy, Sugimoto chose to accept the results of this devine intervention as perfect and allow them to become part of the art. Works beautifully. Also on the docket somber is a reductive black/white view of the Sea of Galilee, and images from Sugimoto's "In Praise of Shadows" series, oversized exposures of flickering candle flames. Go see.

Robert Koch Gallery : Bruce Davidson - Time of Change, 1961-1965.
Comment by AB: Dramatic documentary photographs by Bruce Davidson, taken mainly in the Deep South, recount one of the most perilous and intense periods of race relations in America, an era that would come to be known as the Civil Rights Movement. Definitely worth a visit.

Toomey Tourell Gallery : Jimi Gleason - Melting Point, Silver Deposit Paintings.
Review by Anna Rotty: Light, prisms and reflections come to mind while viewing Jimi Gleason's stimulating new series of silver deposit paintings. Gleason chemically burns this dynamic series of layered paintings to create corrosive textured surfaces that allow light to bounce and bend off of their surfaces. The subject of (almost) every piece is a bold diamond shape that remains strong and static as the background changes with the light and perspective of the viewer. Make sure not to miss the one piece void of this diamond shape. Here the canvas acts as a mirror, reflecting a distorted image of yourself in the raw silver material.
