Fraenkel Gallery : Alec Soth - Songbook.

Comment by AB: You could almost call these family photos, and indeed they are the result of Alec Soth's journeys through the rural America. These innocent glimspes of life away from urban congestion, density and big city pressures are exquisite expressions of a freer less encumbered existence. Pick of First Thursday.

Toomey Tourell Fine Art : Yvette Gellis - Standing In the Corner.

Comment by AB: The vigorous compositions of Los Angeles artist Yvette Gellis have an energy about them, often looking like engines in action powering semi-representational realms.

Hespe Gallery : Greta Van Campen - Heading West.

Review by RWM: Great show about The City and sites nearby. Wonderful places captured in paint. Bounteous views and fascinating environs to share. What a cool place to come to and live. Happy to be lucky.

Sandra Lee Gallery : Walter Quirt - Revolutions Unseen.

Comment by AB: Retrospective selection of paintings from the estate of Walter Quirt dating from 1939-1964. Wild compositions dense with characters and color palettes that exponentially accentuate the action.

Dolby Chadwick Gallery : Vanessa Marsh - Everywhere All at Once.

Review by RWM: Nice to be out under the stars here. Interesting silohoutes and nightscapes. Cool the way all seem to be from the same place.

Comment by AB: Silent silhouette landscapes against the night sky invite mysterious encounters with beauty.

Gregory Lind Gallery : Jake Longstreth - Free Range.

Comment by AB: Jake Longstreth's expansive landscapes perhaps portend the future with their hazy skies, forests aflame and pale vegetation. Zoom in close to appreciate the detail. Good show; go see.

K Imperial Fine Art : Melissa Dickenson - Hard In The Paint.

Comment by AB: Rather than paint her abstractions on canvas or panel like all the other artists do, Melissa Dickenson paints portions of each composition on separate sheets of thin polyethylene film and then stretches them over one another to complete the piece. The finished works have a depthy layered look.
