Scott Richards Contemporary Art : Florilegium - David Michael Smith.

Comment by AB: Magnificently executed paintings capture youth, beauty, sensuality and subtle sensations of motion-- human, animal and floral-- as they transit territories from Old Master still-lifes to tattoos and androgyny. Hypnotic encounters with perfection and well worth a visit.

John Berggruen Gallery : Clare Kirkconnell - Juxtapositions.

Comment by AB: At a distance, Clare Kirkconnell's paintings look like soft impressionist scenes of land, sky and water for the most part. When you move in close, you see that they resolve into well-ordered grids, related to her experience with patterns in weaving. Another fascinating aspect of her work is that she mixes all her paint on the canvas.

Gregory Lind Gallery : Off the Shelf - Mass-Market Multiples, Objects from the Collection of Lawrence Banka & Judith Gordon.

Review by RWM: Wonderful trip through times past. One can see all sorts of artists being remembered and honored in a show that captures the waves they made and the visual impressions they created. Fun to look for memorable styles in art objects they have given to the mass audiences. Fun also to see the ways these collectors appreciate artists and find value in their expressions. This can be sort of a walk down memory lane.

Comment by AB: I love objects, products, editions and ephemeral items conceived, inspired or produced by artists for the purpose of reaching larger markets. Certainly an affordable way to collect rather famous names. Oodles of entertainment here. Check it out.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery : Jason Rohlf and Cole Morgan.

Review by Teri Goodson: In the front gallery, artist Jason Rohlf's hi-fidelity abstract acrylic paintings-- complex compositions of shape, texture and color-- have a transcendent or spiritual quality about them. The artist states that basic energies like magnetism and wind form a starting point for his art. In the rear gallery, Cole Morgan works in mixed-media on canvas, presenting evocative arrangements of space and shapes.
