Comment by AB: In the main gallery, Dave Anderson focuses his camera on a single block in New Orleans, the residents still struggling to cope with Hurricane Katrina's incredible devastation and aftermath five years later. In the side gallery, Polaroid portrait photographs by Barbara Crane document attendees at Chicago summer festivals in the 1980s.

Corden Potts Gallery : The Burn - Jane Fulton Alt.
Review by RWM: The fire displayed succeeds as a force of natural change, but also as a personal metaphor. Flames are photographed by Jane Fulton Alt in all their wonder. What is left is not merely ash but the surviving life forces that will someday be able to repopulate. The weed and brush will renew despite the onslaught. One can't help but acknowledge the loss, but the end is not in sight. The art is surprisingly uplifting; all will be able to grow again.

Comment by AB: Dan Estabrook employs antique photographic techniques such as calotype paper negative and salt print to produce images that simultaneously reference the past and bridge to the present. Luis Delgado isolates everyday objects, typically ones with anthropomorphic overtones, photographs them against plain backgrounds, sometimes alone, other times organized into repetitive patterns, and often with a deliciously devilish sense of humor.

Needles & Pens : Morph Traits - Kyle Ranson and Daniel Higgs.
Comment by AB: 44 collaborative works on paper by Kyle Ranson and Daniel Higgs created over a three-year period are the result of back-and-forth correspondences by mail between the two. The drawings have been published as a limited edition book (500 copies) with the same title as the show-- Morph Traits. The surprise ending? The Berkeley Art Museum purchased the entire show.
