Hackett Mill Gallery : Jules Olitski - The Early Spray Paintings 1965 to 1969.

Comment by AB: Legend has it that Clement Greenberg insisted Jules Olitski keep these stylistic departure "spray paintings" to himself. And so, the legend continues, he did. Until now. Here they are, on display for the first time from the artist's estate. Check 'em out. Worth seeing.

Comment by AB: San Francisco Cinematheque is the "premiere showcase for personal and experimental film and video" in the city, founded in 1961. Throw a little financial support their way and get some pretty peppy art in exchange for your generosity. This year's event is history, but you've got plenty of time to get on their email list for next year's. Here's a sampling...

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts : Dissident Futures.

Artists: Neïl Beloufa, Heman Chong and Anthony Marcellini, Peter Coffin, Revital Cohen and Tuur Van Balen, Brody Condon, Future Cities Lab, Melanie Gilligan, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Shane Hope, David Huffman, Paul Laffoley, Basim Magdy, Dan Mills, The Otolith Group, Trevor Paglen, Katie Paterson, Kamau Amu Patton, Connie Samaras, Cauleen Smith.

Review by Tania Seabock: Dissident Futures opening tonight at YBCA is a success! Great imaginations decorate the walls and oh so many pretty people show up with their friends for a night of fun. The show is about visualizing the future, of what it "might be" someday. Artists and designers use elements from the occult, science fiction, philosophy, and outer space in their works.

Comment by AB: If you like both art and technology, you'll love this. Season it up with prognostication, conjecture, augury, science fiction, visionary thinking and artistic license, and you get this show. Best of show goes to the incredible simulated systems of Paul Laffoley, mostly dating from the early 1970s.
