Brian Gross Fine Art : Ruth Pastine - Mind's Eye.

Comment by AB: Exquisitely gradated oils on canvas are certain to elevate the mood of any room and of any viewer who is seduced by their deep hypnotic beauty. Nicely done. Go see.

Catharine Clark Gallery : Chris Doyle - The Fluid.

Comment by AB: Chris Doyle does it all with a focus on the qualities of liquidness. In the front gallery, chill to icy gray-scale watercolors on paper. In the darkened rear gallery, take a psychedelic trip courtesy of his colorific videos. Worth a visit.

Jack Fischer Gallery : Lauren DiCioccio - Familiars.

Comment by AB: Whimsical mixed media sculptures featuring fabric and thread transit pretty much every ilk imaginable with their diverse range of subjects. The winners? Her thread and fabric-coated trophies. But it's all good here. Like it.

Steven Wolf Fine Arts : Matt Borruso - Wax House of Wax.

Comment by AB: Though Matt Borruso's art is not always pretty, it's always intriguing. Enjoy eccentric fantasy furniture and collage in the front gallery before heading into the rear gallery where you'll be mesmerized by a mind-bending miscellany of an installation. Stop on by.

Root Division : Introductions 2014. Juried by Kevin B. Chen, Jack Fischer & Maysoun Wazwaz.

Artists: Jennifer Brandon, Marshall Elliott, Rodney Ewing, Patrick Hothan, Todd Lavine, Lisa McCutcheon, Samuel Metcalf, Mie Mogensen, Raphael Noz, Jeana Poindexter, Stephanie Rohlfs, Kate Short.

Review by RWM: Fascinating work will give one reason to ponder. The art here is a bit intellectual, being sobering and humbling in the process. Some of these are artists in process. Fun to be along for the journey.

Comment by AB: A look at twelve Bay Area promising talents selected from over 135 artist submissions.

Comment by AB: Opening tonight at the art super store, Pakpoom Silaphan offers up an international twist on American pop icons and corporate branding in the front galleries, C215 presents unsettling young people's portraits in the left project room, rainbow Arcadian idylls by David Marc Grant in the right project room where creatures hold court and humans are nowhere to be seen, and mysterious sinister scenarios by Christopher Burch in the rear project space.
