Comment by AB: Fantastic paintings of corrupted data like you might find on your computer screen when bad things happen. Or maybe they refer more to the state of human relations. Whatever your interpretation, they're so good I hereby declare them Pick of the Month. Like to wager on young talent? Good odds here. Definitely worth a visit. Comment by AB: In the front gallery, Lauren Marsolier concocts pristine make-believe locations, devoid of human activity. Desolate though they are, they're so serene and peaceful, you want to believe they actually exist. In the rear gallery, Rachelle Bussi?res uses experimental materials and techniques to achieve her cryptic abstract compositions. Worthy on both counts. Stop on by.

Altman Siegel Gallery : Nate Boyce - Repossession Sequence
Comment by AB: The show statement is a masterpiece of grandiloquence, a testament to turgidity, an orgy of effusion. You wanna puff it up? Sure, why not? As for ordinary dudes like me, I prefer to bypass the bombast and head straight to the art. Quality and craftsmanship are both evident in abundance in these Nate Boyce painted metal sculptures, easy to appreciate on artistic merits alone. To some, they may look like stuff that fell off the back of the truck, and perhaps that's what they're meant to mimic (which makes them even better), but one thing's for sure-- they're exceptionally well-done and a pleasure to behold. Like 'em!

Comment by AB: In the midst of a week full of the worst kinds of news, strife, discord, hate and injustice, comes this show. And contrary to what seems to be the prevailing climate of conflict, hostility and distrust-- completely contrary-- this night is so warm, welcoming, peaceful, unified, spiritual and uplifting, my faith in the greater good, in the positivity of humanity takes a serious and sorely needed uptick. It's not without people speaking their minds and expressing their feelings, but the overall atmosphere is free of animosity. As bad as things can sometimes get, and as hopeless as they may seem, events like this rejuvenate my soul and reboot my optimistic outlook on life. Such is the power of art.
