Hespe Gallery : Amberlee Rosolowich - New Oil Paintings.

Review by RWM: Fascinating exploration of our connection to the wild animals at the zoos and amusement parks. Everyone's welcome for a show which will bring out the youngster in all of us. It is sometimes difficult for us to understand our relationships to the wild, especially considering films like King Kong. Amberlee Rosolowich succeeds at making a memorable impression. We can learn from these wild creatures who have been totems for some. Diminished in stature by captivity, their stories have progressively changed.

Dolby Chadwick Gallery : Terry St. John.

Comment by AB: Terry St. John keeps it real in the Bay Area Figurative tradition, though he puts his own special spin on matters with rich textural flourishes and a hefty helping of abstract.

George Krevsky Gallery : Mary Robertson - Summer on the River

Comment by AB: I remember Mary Robertson telling me once that her inspiration for these paintings are lazy summer days along the banks of the Russian River. Spend a brief respite enjoying this show and relaxation is guaranteed. Her art is like an instant vacation; something about it just plain works. Stop on by and see what I mean.

Robert Koch Gallery : David DiMichele - Pseudodocumentation; Fabricated Realities - Group Exhibition.

Fabricated Realities photographers: Angelo (Pál Funk), Fred R. Archer, Ruth Bernhard, Tibor Csörgeö, Frantisek Drtikol, Josef Ehm, Foto Ada, Jaromír Funke, Philippe Halsman, Florence Henri, Lotte Jacobi, Kenneth Josephson, István Kerny, André Kertész, Jirí Lehovec, Edward Quigley, Alexander Rodchenko, Jaroslav Rössler, Josef Sudek, Karel Teige, Frantisek Vobecký, Alexander Zhitomirsky.

Review by Larissa Archer: Fabricated Realities is a group showing of conceptual and experimental collages, photographs, photomontages and photograms by artists throughout the 20th century. At turns bizarre, beautiful, creepy, and hallucinatory. Go see it.

Comment by AB: David DiMichele's Pseudodocumentation is yet another impressive example of how digitally manipulated imaging has evolved into art. Check it out.

Gregory Lind Gallery : Karla Wozniak - Significant Landscapes.

Comment by AB: New York artist Karla Wozniak's highway and commercial brand name landscapes hark back in varying degrees to American Regionalist art, perhaps flavored with a little Stuart Davis and Charles Sheeler.

Brian Gross Fine Art : Chad Buck - Recent Works; Andrea Way - Venetian Dream.

Comment by AB: Lustrous textural single-tone paintings by Chad Buck shimmer with soft iridescence; several are outright metallic, looking almost like impasto ingots. Discover small-format works by Andrea Way in the side gallery, dense and vibrant with color and pattern, and certain to reel you in for a closer look.

Fraenkel Gallery : Irving Penn - Radical Beauty.

Comment by RWM: Beautiful, strange, odddd and unexpected images will keep you guessing.

Comment by AB: Famed American portrait and fashion photographer Irving Penn (1917-2009) lets his wild side loose-- brilliant, bold and unbridled. Dreaming these up is one thing; convincingly materializing them is the coup. Pick of First Thursday.
