Gallery 16 : Stockhouse - Tucker Nichols.
Comment by AB: This show is being held in conjunction with Tucker Nichols' SFMOMA commission to create a performance space for "Stage Presence," an exhibition that will run from July 7 - October 8, 2012. The rangy installation here at Gallery 16 consists of pattern paintings and drawings-- or maybe more accurately, swatches-- arrayed in bulletin board style, that are in varying degrees related to the large scale "wallpaper" works that were created for SFMOMA. As Nichols puts it, "...the loose idea was to create a kind of fake design studio out of which the SFMOMA commission was created."

Ratio 3 Gallery : Andrejova-Molnár Papers - Katarina Burin.
Comment by AB: Katarina Burin time-travels back to imagine herself among a select group of Czechoslovakian and Hungarian modernist architects active between World War I and World War II. The upshot? A compelling blend of facts, conjecture and art presented in a documentary format. Burin seamlessly combines actual artifacts of the time with her suppositional prints, drawings and superbly executed architectural models (that she tells me she taught herself how to make-- impressive). Recommended viewing.

FFDG : Edible Complex - Kelly Tunstall & Ferris Plock.
Review by RWM: The eyes have it in this dreamy exploration of optimism and hope. One can look into her eyes and see the stars. The pink is not threatening, but soothing and playful instead. Nice to seek visions and gaze at the larger cosmos. Fun to be along for this party of a voyage.
Review by Larissa Archer: Kelly Tunstall has developed some distinctive motifs-- girls with long necks and kaleidoscope eyes, placed in dreamy settings and wearing flamboyant, bohemian clothes, sometimes posing with books or espresso cups.

31 Rausch Street : Kathrin Feser - Orbital Drawings.
Review by Larissa Archer: Kathrin Feser's orbital drawings, made from using whatever round, traceable objects she has on hand, are repetitive and hypnotic. Simple circles combine to create amoeba-like blobs that look as if they'd explode like a water balloon if you pricked them. With Feser as with Kelly Tunstall (see FFDG review above), one gets the feeling one's looking at the products of hours of meditative doodling, their work is appealing and makes one sorta wish they'd both try their hands at graphic novels, poster art, even fashion, as wells as their current visual art projects.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts : David Shrigley - Brain Activity.
Comment by AB: David Shrigley's expansive exhibition will have you laughing out loud at the absurdity of it all. So much art is so serious; this art is precisely the opposite, or perhaps more accurately, serious in its quest to be hilarious. Shrigley's animated videos are especially hysterical. Love every bit of it! Stop on by for an instant disposition pick-me-up.
