Comment by AB: Artist books from the collection of Mary Austin. The difference between the examples on exhibit here and more conventional books is that these are more sculptural than literary. Most date from the past 20 years. The work of over 40 book artists is represented. Those of you who think of books as things with lots of pages may wish to be reprogramed here. Go see.

Romer Young Gallery : The Light that Failed - Deric Carner.
Comment by AB: It all started with an old newspaper illustration of Ida Lupino found languishing by New York artist Deric Carner, and which he's here reincarnated in deep royal blue. The other works in the show are inspired by that one, the sum total completely interconnected, though don't expect to decipher any of those interconnections without skilled assistance. Fortunately, a convenient convoluted explanatory is available at the gallery front desk. Good art; check it out.

Park Life : Through the Blinds - Eric Shaw.
Comment by AB: I ask Eric Shaw if he knows Matthew Palladino to which he answers yes. It turns out that they've even shown together at a gallery in Philadelphia, and if I recall correctly, have worked together as well. Their styles are remarkably similar. Here at Park Life, Shaw's cryptic compositions are exceptionally well-painted and impenetrable enough to keep you guessing for decades. For those of you keeping score at home, Shaw is self-taught. All you self-taughters who drone on about how that's a handicap-- let this be a lesson to you. Recommended viewing.
