Comment by AB: And so a new era in San Francisco's invincible art scene begins with the official public opening of Minnesota Street Project, an airy former warehouse that's been converted into an expansive multi-use art space. One-stop shopping for all kinds of quality art (with the notable exception of urban... maybe that'll come later), plus tasty fringe benefits like plenty of free easy parking and no meters in sight (at least for now) make the venue a must-see for all serious artsters. The galleries range from young upstarts to several of Ess Eff's most venerable, so no matter what your predilections, propensities or price range may be, you'll surely satiate yourself here. Wanna see what I'm talkin' about? OK.

Anglim Gilbert Gallery : Enrique Chagoya - Mindful Savage's Guide to Reverse Modernism
Comment by AB: Pick show of the night goes to Enrique Chagoya for his placements of modern art milestones into historical contexts. Riffing on how modern artists appropriated imagery from primitive cultures, Chagoya imagines what might result if primitive cultures embezzled in similar ways from masterworks of modern art. While he's at it, he also paints himself into history, glasses frames and all. Definitely worth seeing.

Ever Gold [Projects] : Hand to Mouth - Serge Attukwei Clottey
Comment by AB: Serge Attukwei Clottey's been getting all kinds of attention lately for his recycled plastic jug art, cut and combined into flowing tapestry-like formations, while transforming their handles into likenesses of traditional African tribal masks. Good show; go see.

Jack Fischer Gallery : Javier Arce - Seeing the Elephant
Comment by AB: These crumply Tyvek wall and floor works look pretty spiffy now but from a maintenance perpective, how about in five years? Ten years? At the very least, they're HTD (hard to dust). No biggie though. We all know it's not about that. It's art baby, it's art! I take solace in the fact that Jack Fischer's been around the block a few times and knows exactly what he's doing.
