Comment by AB: According to the show statement, Emily Wardill's second feature film, Fulll Firearms, "ultimately confounds a linear reading," a challenge which does not instill me with an opulence of confidence. But I persevere, and confounded or otherwise, I get the premise and plot line, both adequately compelling. Plus ponder a selection of appealing enigmatic photographs. Worth a look.

SF Camerawork : Maggie Preston - An Unfixed Form.
Comment by AB: Maggie Preston gets technical in terms of what you can possibly wring out of the photographic medium... and she wrings out plenty. The featured series has to do with exposing a single flash directly to photo-sensitive paper. I'm seein' an upside potential for more in-depth investigation-- and longevity-- here. Check it out.

Gallery 16 : Alice Shaw - Landscape Update.
Review by RWM: Though probably not a new idea, landscape paintings or photographs can not only be about marvels and wonders hearkening back to the days of John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt. They can also be about the damage we are doing to the environment. Some may feel inconvenienced by the country and outdoors resulting in a loss of the reverence which other visitors may still want to experience. To be found here is a personal rather than universal response to that which is not human. You might be surprised by the odd art on display that speaks to our experience in the country in terms of destruction and damage rather than peace and tranquility. The point is not a new one, but has remained topical with so many animals and plants falling by the wayside due to our trashing of the wild both physically and psychologically.
Comment by AB: If you're gonna go conceptual, you gotta do it clear enough and enough enough so that even I can understand it-- or at least think I understand it. I think I understand it. Recommended.
