Southern Exposure at Hotel des Arts: Jenny Chapman and Mark A. Reigelman II - Manifest Destiny!

Comment by AB: Jenny Chapman and Mark A. Reigelman II stake a claim to the airspace above Le Central bistro on Bush Street by attaching a pint-sized country cabin, complete with curtains and electricity, to the side of Hotel des Arts. Gives a whole new meaning to open air living; perhaps mid-air living is more like it.

Catharine Clark Gallery : 21st Anniversary Exhibition - Portraiture Post Facebook.

Artists: Ray Beldner, Adam Chapman, Anthony Discenza, Chris Doyle, Scott Greene, Charles Gute, Nina Katchadourian, Kara Maria, Kambui Olujimi, Walter Robinson, Carlos & Jason Sanchez, Lincoln Schatz, Stephanie Syjuco, Masami Teraoka.

Comment by AB: Catharine Clark celebrates 21 years in the gallery business. I recall the early years, those shows in her original space on Hayes Street, typically ranging in flavor from controversial to scandalous, the more outrageous of which had lines stretching around the block on opening night. Then on to 49 Geary she went, and now officially ensconced here on Minna Street just a sculpture's throw away from the Museum of Modern Art. As they used to say in those Virginia Slims commercials, "You've come a long way, baby."

FFDG : Midnight on the Sun - Works by Jay Howell & Mark Whalen (Kill Pixie).

Comment by AB: Small format abounds with Mark Whalen, aka Kill Pixie, exhibiting futuristic high-gloss figurative abstractions on one side of the gallery, and on the opposite side, Jay Howell embellishing co-opted vintage paperback pages with yet another onslaught of slender eccentrics frolicking their ways through life. Stop on by.

Comment by AB: The Oceanic Awareness Collaboration (aka OAC) holds its first annual traveling benefit art auction by offering a robust selection of art by an international roster of artists. Headquartered in Southern California, this non-profit organization is dedicated to raising our awareness of threats to the health our oceans, particularly having to do with the large amounts of non-biodegradable plastics that are inexorably contaminating open-sea habitats.
