Comment: The thing about photography is that you give any bozo a camera and they think they're Sally Mann or Larry Clark or Danny Lyon or something. (You lookin' at me?) And then there's the let's-make-really-big-prints approach to the discipline that's so interminably overabused right now. What you don't often see are images that effectively convey what their photographers think about, feel, experience, what their lives are like, how they look at the world, what they regard as noteworthy or significant-- and with artistry-- no tricks or bloat or other cheap cons. Legitimacy is refreshing, and you can see some pretty legit shit at Needles & Pens, walls of it, in the little tiny watch-your-head gallery at the back of the store, behind the magazine and fashion accessories departments.
