The McLoughlin Gallery : John Waguespack.

Review by RWM: Memorable icons abound, portrayed in unusual ways. These atypical takes on stardom celebrate the impact of Andy Warhol... who is also on display. One will not be shocked by these works; they're certainly not irreverent. They are however suprising, suggesting for one to re-examine the past. Neat, unexpected and poignant.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts : Nina Beier - Agents of Change What Follows Will Follow II.

Comment by AB: According to Matthew Post, who offers up an elucidation of the dealie bob, Nina Beier's minimalist art & installation consists of reworked photographs of photographs of her art taken at one of her previous shows, the images presented here preserving the angles and perspectives of said sourced photographs... or something like that... I think... more or less... perhaps less than more... ancillary interpretive aerobatics notwithstanding. How'd I do, Matthew? In any event, it's a pretty esoteric endeavor, but affirming the age-old adage that you don't necessarily have to get it (which I don't) to like it (which I do).

Michalopoulos Octavia's Haze Gallery : James Michalopoulos.

Review by RWM: Nice to see The Mission District depicted with such style and impasto. The work evokes the doings of the soulful ways not easy to articulate. Looking at the images, also those of New Orleans, you can veritably hear the music.

Comment by AB: Too bad they've got one of those silly websites that doesn't allow you to download any images. This degree of obsessive possessiveness is entirely counterproductive. I mean who can do anything with a little jpeg of a thick impasto oil painting other than maybe enjoy it. The people who download images of art and share them with others are generally big fans of the artists anyway, and end up spreading the word. Not here though. No pics 4 U.
