Comment by AB: Swedish artist Jockum Nordström waxes autobiographical in folky primitive style genre paint/collage combinations. He complements them with dimensional paper and cardboard assemblage works composed of individual pieces that can be taken apart and put back together like puzzles. Viewers are invited to reconfigure individual works as they please. Not your everyday art show. Stop on by.

John Berggruen Gallery : Pedro S. de Movellan - Kinetic Sculpture.
Comment by AB: Kinetic sculptures so delicate and finely balanced and counterbalanced that many of them are capable of rotating in the slightest of breezes, those breezes being provided by several strategically placed portable fans mounted near the gallery's ceiling. Other sculptures operate by pendulum mechanisms similar to those that you would find in clocks. Art meets science here. Definitely worth a visit.

Comment by AB: Luna Rienne Gallery festoons the Grand Hyatt San Francisco with the best of the best by six of our more prodigious artistic talents. My faves are the two two-story painting assemblages by David Choong Lee in the main floor lobby. I can easily see these taking their place among the great publicly accessible works ever created for The City, ranking right up there with Maxfield Parrish's Pied Piper painting at The Palace Hotel. They have to be seen in person, and once you do that, head upstairs to the restaurant/bar for more of the good stuff. The rest are on the top floor; not sure what the viewing rules are there, so check at the front desk.

Contemporary Jewish Museum : Jason Lazarus - Live Archive.
Comment by AB: Jason Lazarus takes the act of archiving in a decidedly creative direction, transitioning the discipline from the purely impersonal cataloguing of data and information to essaying on the visual and aesthetic properties thereof. What about photographs that people no longer want, for example, but yet are not ready to destroy and throw away? Lazarus gets us thinking about those. Or how about reprinting "Occupy" protest signs and plastering them all over the walls in a density and intensity that we've yet to experience and reflect upon until now? That impresses as well. You'll see those and lots more at this impressive exhibition. Stop on by.
