Park Life : Unnatural Plans - Masako Miki & Steven Vasquez Lopez.

Review by Clare Coppel: Desert landscapes and cityscapes in shiny perfect textured colors. I want to go wherever this is on a design-tastic vacation and forget all my troubles in a retro abstract plaid world. Could it be Palm Springs in disguise? Also, I like paintings that wrap around the frames. And I like books, plenty of which are available for purchase here, particularly the Vice Photo Book. And the backroom of Park Life-- it's kind of like the Bat Cave or going backstage. Cool.

Electric Works Gallery : Repossessed - Lucy Puls; Colony - Talia Greene.

Review by Clare Coppel: Lucy Puls isolates and explores minimalist mixed-media take-it-or-leave-it snippets of life. Photographs, lamps, sinks, televisions, containers, loss, emptiness, and a tentative grasp on sanity that will hopefully resume shortly.

Comment by AB: In the art parlour, Talia Greene digitally embellishes vintage portrait photographs with swarms of honeybees. Most entertaining. But what do you do for an encore?

    1:AM Gallery : Nature's Revenge - 2-Year Anniversary Show.

Artists: Hyde, 64 Colors, Katch, Roberto Gonzalez, Satyr, Chamber Made, Carlos Fortino Almeda, Optimist.

Review by Clare Coppel: 1:AM Gallery brings the sparkle to the corner of 6th and Howard Streets. One of my favorite corners in The City, so dirty but kinda cute too. Plenty of personality, or what one might call character, or where one might choose not to text on their iPhone.

Ampersand International Arts : Randy Colosky - Secret Handshake.

Comment by AB: Nothing is quite what it seems here at one of the better shows I've been to in a good long while; pretty much everything is worth cogitating on. Is it a book? Is it a brick? Is it a sculpture? Is it a painting? Stop on by and cypher it out for yourself. Guaranteed to twist your mind. Hey-- maybe even buy something. This dude's got potential.

Review and images by Clare Coppel: In conjunction with the Arab Film Festival, films about life, women eating food, ping-pong, victims, abusers, windows, crying, tattoos, war, peace... and an artist pushing bread across a street with her face to illustrate a true story about prison and what that experience does to people.

Fivepoints Arthouse : Proximity - Recent Sculpture and Installation by Elizabeth Amento and Jessica Laurent.

Review by RWM, image c/o Fivepoints Arthouse: Wild work with unusual pillows, fabric and cushions resembling living things, some of which might be endangered. The bright colors will surprise and dazzle, but metallic projectiles could fall from the sky. I wouldn't be worried by the unusual things hanging from the walls over these soft-sculpture objects, though. They seem to be teeming with life.

Mission Comics and Art : Meat Market - Joslyn Doerge.

Review by RWM, image c/o Mission Comics and Art: Here you'll find the Nude dissected down to its muscularity, removing much of that magic that we find so appealing. Is this a statement about curiosity killing the cat? The beauty may be gone, but one cannot escape the power of the curves that are still evident. Inspection cannot erase gender which is more than skin deep.
