Bekris Gallery : Nabaas, Traditional Chiefs of Burkina Faso - Photographs by Jean-Dominique Burton.

Comment by AB: Stark striking portraits of traditional African Chiefs by Belgian photographer Jean-Dominique Burton. Also check out her show "Vodoun/Vodounon: Portraits of Initiates," currently on exhibit at Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University.

Don Soker Gallery : Inter Spacing - Christel Dillbohner and Susanne Schossig.

Comment by AB: Tandem enterprise by California transplant Christel Dillbohner and German artist Susanne Schossig who have "maintained a dialogue about their work" in recent years. Christel Dillbohner's deep rich textural abstractions evidence a mixing and blending of varied ingredients, while Susanne Schossig wends her creative way in impressively minute detail. For those of you playing the home version, this will be Don Soker's final show at this location.

Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art : Ryan Martin - New Paintings.

Review by RWM: Fantastical compilations with symbols, metaphors, and celebrities. Strange how the elements exist in harmony together, with the overall effect jarring the psyche. One may find in Ryan Martin's art people who are searching for their zeitgeist. Here is the personal, but also the zoological. Popular culture mixes with the denizens of the wild, and interesting connections are made with Nature.

Comment by AB: Inaugural show for Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art at their new location... and an auspicious one at that. Good stuff; sidle on by.

Joel B. Garzoli Fine Art : Keith Gidlund and Renee Peck.

Comment by AB: Keith Guidland's classic black and white photography with a distinctly vintage feel nicely complements Renee Peck's mysterious landscapes and interiors-- each with complete with apparition-- those apparitions being none other than time-lapse self-portraits of Renee Peck herself.
