Cain Schulte Gallery : Linda Karshan - Time Being, A 15-year Retrospective.

Comment by AB: Linda Karshan's uncomplicated black & white works on paper steadily progress over a fifteen year period from amorphous to geometric and linear, as well as increasingly minimal. Her straight line compositions are so confident, they look like she uses a straight edge, but she draws them entirely by hand. Even so, the overall upshot of the dealie bob trends a smidge Emperor's Clothesy for my tastes.

Hamburger Eyes Photo Epicenter : One Thousand Twenty Six Eyes.

Artists: Andrew Jeffrey Wright, Adam Wallacavage, Alex Lukas, Bill McRight, Caitlin Perkins, Chris Kline, Clint Woodside, Crystal Kovacs, Crystal Stokowski, Dan Murphy, Delilah Knuckley, Jonathan Finnegan, Isaac Lin, Jake Henry, Jacob Marcinek, Justin Myer-Staller, Jodi Rice, Jason Hsu, Kyle Schmidt, Mark Price, Max Lawrence, Meg Kemner, POOPS, Roman Hasiuk, Ted Passon, Thom Lessner, William Buzzell.

Comment by AB: Philadelphia artist collective, Space 1026, comes to town offering up a little bit of everything, centerpieced by a geodesic dome with a slide viewer embedded at every point where six triangles meet-- over 150 in all-- so you can admire the architecture and appreciate photographic visuals at the very same time. The exhibition's mainly photos, extensive and gritty, plus there's loads of options for under $10 on a table in the back room including zines, slide viewers ($3 each), prints, T's, etc. Lots to like here.

Needles & Pens : Nikki McClure - Vote for Survival.

Comment by AB: Exhibit of silkscreen prints on wood and fine cut paper compositions in the Chinese tradition by Nikki McClure wends its way from Olympia to San Francisco to Los Angeles. The show title echoed on the screenprints-- Vote for Survival-- reminds us that there's always plenty at stake, election or not.

Adobe Books Backroom Gallery : Ryan Coffey - Recent Work.

Comment by AB: Intriguing paint, collage, and gilt compositions by Ryan Coffey begin with basic images from sources like magazines and brochures which he then builds out with cryptic shadows and nebulous forms, in attempts to investigate what lies beneath or beyond outward appearances.
