Consulate General of Brazil : Cristina Guerreiro.

Comment by AB: Impressive mixed-media abstract urbanscapes by Cristina Guerreiro combine architectural and occasional cartographic elements. Bright colors and dynamic accents pep these compositions up, especially the ones painted on industrial pallets. Hopefully we'll see more from this artist.

Museum of the African Diaspora : Desert Jewels - North African Jewelry; Photography from the Xavier Guerrand-Hermès Collection; Tuareg and Amima - Photographs of Grace by Elisabeth Sunday.

Comment by AB: Terrific triple-bill here features an extensive exhibition of antique and contemporary jewelry from North Africa, a fascinating 19th century photographs of North African people and places, and on the second floor reception area, elegant black & white photographs of African women by Elisabeth Sunday. Certainly worth a visit.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts : New World, New Sequence - Evan Bissell, Gregory Ito and Surabhi Saraf with Sebastian Alvarez.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Multimedia installations with dynamic structures, fragments of data and use of New Media. A variety of themes include prison, death of sun, tactile laboratory, and more. Deeper investigations are highly encouraged.

Comment by AB: The art and installations in this show respond to this rapidly evolving age of increased connectivity and international interactions, exposure to new ideas, and more expansive ways of thinking about how we progress and move forward.

Gallery 16 : Martin McMurray - Disputed Episodes.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Martin Mc Murray's work is an allegory, a metaphor for social relationships. Some images are very personal critical statements and experiences of the artist. The portraits on the book covers are paintings of Marine officers. The expressive work hung salon-style on the walls reminds with its strong narrative character of Otto Dix and Max Beckmann. This show encourages critical thinking about life; everybody comes up with their own new interpretations of the work.

Comment by AB: This is one of the best shows I've had the pleasure of immersing myself in in quite a while. Welcome to Martin McMurray's unique, compelling, expansive and overwhelming perspective on reality... and what an excursion it is. Highly recommended.

ArtHaus Gallery : Jhina Alvarado - Candid Moments.

Comment by AB: Why no eyes? According to Jhina Alvarado, because so many experiences are shared, the individual identities of those doing the experiencing at any given instant are not relevant to the import of the experiences themselves.
