Dolby Chadwick Gallery : Hunt Rettig - Cracked & Absorbed.

Review by RWM: Even after seeing a dozen of Hunt Rettig's works on the wall I still can't tell whether they really have depth or if they are merely two dimensional. You might not be sure either even if you take a close look. Wonderful variety and interesting style. Some sort of optical illusion on display maybe. Nice to see a mystery of an encounter with art that may leave one dumbfounded.

Comment by AB: Hunt Rettig achieves fascinating dimensional effects; check it out.

    Hespe Gallery : Lawrence Gipe.

Review by RWM: Harsh dark images. Lawrence Gipe's works are more than somber in this shadowy vision. Tough times in a tough time, but one may find them compelling anyway. Happily, things are not so bleak here and now. The images evoke narratives even if they are of The Dark Knight.

Review by RWM: Fun abstracts. Enjoyable mix and use of color. Great show which will pull you in... into the reveling. Exciting contrasts. Joyful yet sublime.

K Imperial Fine Art : Miya Ando - Tides and Phases of the Moon.

Comment by AB: Miya Ando is "a descendant of Bizen sword makers and Buddhist priests (and) was raised between a temple in Okayama, Japan and the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California. I'm not sure what that has to do with her art, but it sounds good... and she works in aluminum with a respectable degree of proficiency. Have a gander.

Toomey Tourell Fine Art : Monica Lundy - House of the Strange Women.

Comment by AB: Mixed media portrait paintings by Monica Lundy based on vintage mugshots of women arrested for prostitution in San Francisco range from unsettling to striking. It's that simple and no more complicated. Are "sex crimes" where we should be investing our law enforcement tax dollars-- consensual sex for money? I've never been a big proponent of that.

Corden Potts Gallery : Studio Physics and An Experiment in Perspective - John Chervinsky.

Comment by AB: John Chervinsky themes his still-life photographs around matters of time. We've certainly quantified time over the eons it in inimitably verifiable ways, but what is it exactly? Chervinsky hypothesizes on that here.
