Comment by AB: In the main gallery, Louise Fishman's classic expressionist abstractions are alive with gesture and energy. In the side gallery, ponder some twenty digital stills of everyday occurrences excerpted by Nathaniel Dorsky from his acclaimed short films.

Modernism Gallery : Charles Arnoldi - New Paintings.

Review by RWM: Abstraction here that challenges convention and expectations. The walls are also part of certain paintings. You have likely never seen minimalism done with so much consideration before.

Comment by AB: Charles Arnoldi, with masterful exactitude, mosaics uncomplicated small to medium sized paintings into wondrous kaleidoscopic medleys, remarkable harmonies that emerge from seemingly disparate color combinations.

Gensler : HUMANS, BEING - Observing people being people.

Artists: Scott Mickelson, Danyol, Gordon Beebe, Judy Johnson-Williams, Joey Deruy, James Phegan, Casey Koerner, Michaela Romesburg.

Review by RWM, image c/o McKinley Art Solutions: See here the the exploration of "people-hood"; those assembled in the art prove to be very assertive even without words. A fascinating range of styles is presented, even if it is not clear they all belong together. This is an unusual exhibit where a map is needed, but the exploration is rewarded. Those who do not "see" other people are are escaping from reality; we all have things to be annoyed about, we are also all in this as one.

Focus Gallery : Nancy Calef - Elephant in the Room.

Review by RWM, image c/o Nancy Calef: If you admired Nancy Calef's work at Live Worms or around North Beach, here is a opportunity to see a lot of it. Her salt-of-the-earth people jump out of the canvas in a variety of ways, not just as sculpture added to the mix. Her portrayals of the city at its finest add to the zeitgeist. Nice to see the personal acknowledged, even if not all is beautiful.

Adobe Books Backroom Gallery : Understanding A Whale Fall/Whale Watch - Carrie Hott.

Comment by AB: Carrie Hott materializes a research project of sorts, an endeavor to learn about whales. Her mad professor-esque installation is complete with notes, files, furniture and accessories (some of which are artworks in and of themselves), and of course, a number of rather skillful graphite on paper renditions of the object of the inquiry-- whales.
