Anthony Meier Fine Arts : Michael DeLucia.

Comment by AB: Michael DeLucia creates a conceptual residence of sorts using a computer controlled router to carve precision images of decorative and functional items typically found around the house (lamps, TV, table, etc) into formica covered panels and forms. Nicely done; stop on by.

Altman Siegel Gallery : Shannon Ebner - Public Surface Pattern.

Review by RWM: Fascinating exploration in a way of what a photograph is. It is not clear if these are actual photos or representations of photos. Unusual works, not in a beautiful way, but in one that's compelling and makes you wonder what the medium is. The subjects seem secondary to the style and composition.

Comment by AB: Admirable artistic subversions of street and highway signage, chain link fencing, hastily scrawled words on dusty surfaces, and the like. Worth a visit.

Gallery Paule Anglim : Annabeth Rosen & Dean Smith - Paintings and Sculptures.

Comment by AB: Dean Smith's paintings from the 90s combine oil and wax to impart texture and dimension. Close in, the surfaces appear almost like polished granite or manmade formica. Anchoring down the pedestals are sumptuously glazed ceramics that look like oversized morsels of sugary dessert. Quality art on both counts. Check it out.

San Francisco Art Institute : Javier Téllez - Games Are Forbidden in the Labyrinth.

Comment by AB: Javier Téllez focuses his art on mental illness and psychiatric confinement. The centerpiece of the show, Chess 2014, is a way-larger-than-life replica of a chess board, the pieces replaced with implements and symbols found in mental institutions and hospitals. Periodically throughout the exhibition, famous chess matches will be reenacted in real time with gloved "orderlies" making the moves. Highly recommended.
