Sandra Lee Gallery : David Jang.

Comment by AB: Los Angeles artist David Jang makes rigorous, deceptive and convincing artworks out of nontraditional materials, many of which are found or recycled, including aluminum cans, wood, chicken wire, snack food bags, wax, and paper towels. Pretty much all art made from recycled materials looks like art made from recycled materials. Jang's look like anything but. The components are well disguised and almost certain to fool you. Good art; go see.

Gallery 291 : Peter Hebeisen - Metamorphosis And Myth, European 20th Century Battlefields.

Review by RWM: Sad remembrance here of combat and body counts in these images of famous battlefields of the past. Though the scenery is serene and beautiful, the statistics of those who fought and lost their lives are somber and sobering. How easy it is sometimes for viewers or visitors to forget.

Modernism Gallery : Michael Dweck - Habana Libre.

Review by RWM: Vibrant goings on South of the Border. Havana, Cuba would be nice to visit. Here is anything from a wild vacation to a honeymoon spot. Catch the festival and celebrations of life.

Comment by AB: The US government would have us believe that Cuba is a decrepit broken down depression casualty. Michael Dweck's photographs put that myth to rest. In the rear gallery, peruse an exceptional selection of early modernist works.

111 Minna Gallery : The Secret State - Kelly Tunstall.

Comment by AB: In this exhilarating episode, Kelly Tunstall's intrepid heroine seeks truths of the universe, cogitating on matters through the eyes of a seer, a scientist, a doctor and sundry other sagacious types.

Unspeakable Projects : Media Love - A Group Exhibition.

Artists: Mark Benson, Jason Fritz, Mik Gaspay, AMTK, Justin Limoges, Matt Momchilov, Double Zero (Hannah Ireland and Annie Vought).

Comment by AB: The proposition for this disjointed diversion is "Yeah it's disposable, but is it junk?" I'm leaning towards junk. Is there a curator in the house?

Coalition on Homelessness : Coalition's Annual Auction - Transforming Art into Action, Many Voices, One Community.

Artists: John Baldessari, Gregg Renfrow, Emory Douglas, Favianna Rodriguez, Scott Williams, Art Hazelwood, many more.

Comment by AB: Eminently worthy annual art auction fundraiser for the Coalition on Homelessness supports those who lack the means to support themselves. Numerous artists from well-known to little known have contributed to the cause.

Mina Dresden Gallery : Everybody's Happy Nowadays - Timothy Buckwalter with selected pieces from Bill Dunlap, Michael Macfeat and Mike Monteiro.

Review by RWM, images c/o Geoff Smith: Cartoons by Timothy Buckwalter remind viewers of magazines and times past. The humor though dated in look, does not seem retrograde in feel.
