Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts : Spaces through Gender - An Exhibition of Latin American Women in Architecture. Curated by Nora Enriquez.

Review by RWM: These archtects are not squares who depend soley on right angles. Fascinating to see the variety of different strange forms on display. The construction works have taken on all sorts of unusual designs in ways that will surprise, amaze and inspire. Cool to encounter things the likes of which one may have never seen before. Here is a cultural experience.

Comment by AB: Impressive survey of work by contemporary Latin American women architects, all of whom are principals in their own firms. Structures include private homes, the Dia Foundation, a school, a funeral home, Temple of the Empty Circle (an exquisite minimalist mandala in a forest setting-- my favorite), and more. A dynamic freeform plywood structure in the center of the gallery anchors and underscores the talent of the participants. Sponsored in part by the Mexican Consulate-- ever active in the local art scene (I'm a fan).
