Painted Bird : Lisa Rybovich-Cralle and Jessalyn Aaland - Good News.

Comment by AB: I hereby conditionally attest that I like both Jessalyn Aaland's and Lisa Rybovich-Cralle's spirited meticulous paint and collage works. A rather pleasant surprise on both counts, actually. For all you inquisitives out there, the conditional part is that the art's hung so high up on the walls, I can't assault it with my traditional eagle-eye zoom-in scrutiny. But circumstances look promising from afar.

Gallery 1988 : Call of the Wild. Artists: Gideon Boomer, Ryan Sanchez, Ben Strawn, Melissa Haslam.

Review by RWM: A disappointing and sad collection of work which complains about our connection and experiences of the wild. Unfortunate to see such a famous title used by those who do not appreciate its meaning or significance. Gideon Boomer's fantastical hybrids hardly seem like heros who are up to the challenge of defending the wild. Ben Strawn's gothic boxes revel in decay and disease, rather than beauty. Melissa Haslam's subjects commune with nature, but in varying states of melancholy. Ryan Sanchez complains about the birds and the bees as well as other bugs. Nature can be rough, but we should remember its splendor. One need prepare for it's challenges and rewards.

Fivepoints Arthouse : Tough Times Magazine - Pre-Print Release Party.

Comment by AB: At the top of tonight's news, Fivepoints Arthouse relocates from its North Beach digs to Tehama Street, assuming the former space of Pigman Gallery. Tonight's grand opening event is a fundraiser for Tough Times Magazine (still a twinkle in the eyes of it's publishers-to-be), its mission being to confront the challenges of difficult living in this era of post-economic-implosion. The crowd's sure peppy, plus special added bonus for all you eaters in da house-- baked potatoes. And if you need something to wash 'em down with-- chili.

I'm feeling kinda hungry, and as good fortune would have it, I happen upon these. I sift through 'em until I finally find one I like. Then I decide I'm really that hungry after all so I put it back (only kidding-- don't get all fluffed up). On a serious note, I wonder who uses that towel to dry off with after a shower?

Chili bar. OK-- back to the art...
