Sea Turtle Restoration Project : Arts and Crafts Show and Benefit Silent Art Auction to Help Gulf Sea Turtles.

Review by RWM, image c/o Sea Turtle Restoration Project: If you think the recession is bad, imagine being a sea turtle. Much presented here to tell the sad story of the amiable sea turtles who have seen their habitat destroyed. They are also lured in by long fishing lines baited with what could be the last bites of food they ever take. The struggle for survival and beauty is depicted here in all sorts of inspiring ways. Being cute has not been enough.

Alphonse Berber Projects : Don Porcella - New Work.

Comment by AB: In the sculpture department, two of Don Porcella's life-sized pipe cleaner creatures are eminently blessed in the genitalia department. As for the paintings, Porcella comments on life as we know it in an wry naive style. If you wanna take home something in a bag, there's a wall of that too.

San Francisco Art Exchange : Lovers of Covers - The Album Art of Storm Thorgerson.

Comment by AB: Storm Thorgerson has been designing album covers for major international rock & roll bands since the early 1970s (long before the invention of Photoshop) and the goods on display here conclusively prove it.

The Shooting Gallery : Rest For The Wicked - New Works by Ferris Plock.

Review by Clare Coppel: Ferris Plock's samurai urban hip hop animals inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e prints are produced in a variety of media, some on wood. Beautiful colors and details. As good as watching every episode of Samurai Champloo twice.

Comment by AB: Ferris Plock takes it to a new level. Go see.

White Walls Gallery : This Fear You May Know - New Works by Skinner.

Review by Clare Coppel: Skinner's solo exhibit "This Fear You May Know" consists of amazingly detailed large multi-media paintings of monsters and demons in gorgeous colors. Skinner's paintings draw on Sci-Fi and comics in a way that makes them bizarrely comfortingly familiar, particularly the masks. It's like the best of Adult Swim and Halloween.

Review by RWM: Hideous. Scary. Funny. Halloween is not too far away in these dark depictions which remind that the days are getting shorter and we need prepare for the dark. And they do so in quite stylish ways. Amazing yet disturbing displays of egos that have not been left at home.

Comment by AB: Step into White Walls and immerse yourself in Skinner's bizarre and very convincing world. You'll be glad you did. It's kinda like visual meth or maybe loosing the demons. Hey... we all have 'em. This dude's got the juice.
