Comment by AB: I'm told that the 18th and Treat Street studio and storefront complex houses over 300 artists, entrepreneurs, and assorted creative services. About 25 studios and storefronts are open this evening, ranging from an art gallery on the street level to studios offering everything from art, photography, and jewelry to dog clothing, skin care, hats, and acupuncture. A rather motley agglomeration. The venue has open studio events planned through December-- email for details.

Rhodes & Fletcher, LLC : It's a Numbers Game.

Comment by AB: Here's an anomaly for you-- a combination panel discussion (called "Suddenly Wealthy") and art exhibit held here at the offices of Rhodes & Fletcher, LLC (WEALTHCOACH building and financial well-being... whatever that is). The discussion is for people who come into big bucks fast-- kinda like the opposite of me-- and has to do with the legal, financial, and emotional ramifications of instant riches. Following the discussion is-- you guessed it-- an art show (and reception). The connection? The art is themed on chance and circumstance.

For those of you keeping score at home, the venue for tonight's event is the historic Merchant's Exchange Building on California Street, designed by famed SF architect, Willis Polk. William Alexander Coulter's superb San Francisco Bay mural is clearly visible through the glass door entrance to the Marine Exchange at the rear of the lobby. Worth a look.

Comment by AB: The contemporary art is courtesy of Reaves Gallery; the vintage art is courtesy of Lost Art Salon. So OK. Disclosure time. Lost Art Salon has received entirely too much laudatory press as of late. There's a reason why lost art gets lost. And a lot of it deserves to stay lost. Sorry, but Lost Art Salon is turning into a bit of a sham and turning my stomach at the same time. Kitsch is fun and delightful and kicky and campy, and I love the Lost Art ethos to a point, but when they start positioning their secondhand store salvage as serious artistic endeavor, we gotta part ways.
