ArtworkSF at Hotel Triton: Melisa Phillips - Blind Perspective.

Review by RWM, image courtesy of ArtworkSF: Melisa Phillips' art points out that we live our lives in a sea of numbers. She comments on a wide range of subjects which are inundated by code. Here one finds a reaction to the information age. The art grabs your attention with the prevalence of figures putting you into a contemplative mood. Some will find the work reactionary in the way that it comments on how we live in a constantly changing age of increasingly complicated numerical designations.

Warnock Fine Arts : 40 New Works from Europe (... and Au Revoir, San Francisco).

Artists: Renaud Allirand, Christian Bozon, Alain Bar, Francois Hungler, Karel Demel, Charles Ware, Peter Wever, Mikio Watanabe, Lanfranco Quadrio, Mitsuo Shiraishi, Erik Desmazieres.

Review by RWM: An impressive collection of prints from overseas. Here is a nice opportunity to see what others are doing elsewhere. The natures scenes are grand. A lot of impressive detail and beauty to behold; the two often go hand-in-hand.

Comment by AB: Alas, Larry Warnock bids San Francisco adieu. He's off to decidedly unfoggy Palm Springs where will soon open a brand new establishment. He's a fine dealer in fine prints, and it'll likely be a while before we see another gallery of the quality, professionality and genuineness of his.

California Historical Society : Hobos to Street People - Artists' Responses to Homelessness from the New Deal to the Present.

Artists: David Bacon, Eric Drooker, Isac Friedlander, Ed Gould, Art Hazelwood, Dorothea Lange, Clare Leighton, Christine Hanlon, Albert Potter, Iver Rose, Kiki Smith, Sandow Birk, Doug Minkler, Claude Moller, Giacomo Giuseppe Patri, Rachael Romero, San Francisco Print Collective, Jos Sances, Anton Refregier, Herman Volz, Richard V. Correll, Francisco Dominguez, Charles Surendorf, Paul Weller, Fritz Eichenberg, Rockwell Kent, Jane "in vain" Winkelman. Curated by Art Hazelwood.

Review by RWM: Sobering and sad, but that's the way it's supposed to be. The bright spot is that artistic people are paying attention to the plight of the less fortunate. The art presented, along with the captions on the wall, challenge one to reexamine the American and California Dream. Things may be better here in the states, but the struggle is not really over.

Comment by AB: Seriously worthy survey spans 75 years of homelessness and poverty in America and points up the role of activist artists in pinpointing injustice, calling for change and influencing social and political agendas. Closing reception tonight. Wish I could have covered the opening and exhorted y'all to go see it. Good stuff.

Comment by AB: Prints and drawings. My favorites? Uncomplicated, effective and entertaining character studies of famous artists and musicians by Walter Kresnik.

Artists: Alan Geller, Alex Miloradovich, Andrew Boyle, Andreas Katz, James Cha, Kenneth McGough, Leonardas Surgalia, Lynn Alcorn, Mary Ann Scanlan, Marsha Bellavance, Peter Sherburn-Zimmer, Proctor Jones, Rebecca Peters.

Review by RWM: Too bad this show is only up for one night. Here is an eclectic collection of photography, some of it very affordable. A wide variety of subjects and concerns are presented. One should hope the wait is not too long for the next show.

Comment by AB: Fun funky affordable group photo show features work by a number of San Francisco's most notable bohemians.
