Sandra Lee Gallery : Summer Finale.

Artists: David Mark, Donna McGinnis, Marilyn Kuksht.

Review by RWM: Nice variety of paintings and sculptures, but the large abstract paintings set the mood. Here one will find somber abstractions that are weighty and serious. Though colorful, one does not forget gravity.

Adobe Books Backroom Gallery : Jacqueline Norheim and Kirsten Harkonen - It's Hard to Make It Whole When All You Have is Pieces.

Comment by AB: Landscape paintings layered over abstract backgrounds by Jacqueline Norheim integrate nicely with photographic landscape excerpts against black backgrounds by Kirsten Harkonen. Good work on both counts, notably affordable and worth a purchase.

Electric Avenue Gallery : Room for Mistakes - Charlie Callahan with guest artist Cory Stafford.

Comment by AB: Art and installation with a deep sea motif. In the here's-something-you-don't-see-everyday department, four sewn stuffed chickens sit in a circle observing a horizontal video screen connected to a camera mounted in a whale vertebra; a crystal is positioned in the center of the video screen.

Root Division : From Our Bodies Blinking. Curated by Blake Gibson.

Artists: Jeremiah Barber, Mel Day & Miraim Dym, Kate Gilmore, Noah Krell, Nicole McClure & Smith Koy Smith, Michael Namkung, Renee Rhodes.

Comment by AB: Exhibition of contemporary performance art, mostly in the form of video. Two live performances are happening tonight, one by Jeremiah Barber in progress while I'm there. In a darkened room, he lies submerged in water except for his head which he moves slowly and hauntingly up and down just at the surface of the water and barely even causing a ripple. Interesting show; check it out.

Review by RWM, images c/o Studio Gallery: Nice to see the ocean and local waters celebrated in a theme show that will inspire. Some say the water is so exalted because it can be a metaphor for emotional life. It can connect to our misunderstood depths. The sea certainly has drawn all sorts as attested to here. Wonderful images capture its magic. There is also grit about its interface with the urban. The shore is a subject to contend with, one with a beauty that can transfix and transform. One can revel introspectively sometimes with the quiet and solitude on display... can also afford to bring a piece of it home.
