Comment by AB: Curators Betti-Sue Hertz and Ceci Moss select 15 Bay Area arts organizations from among 50 proposals for this 7th episode of Bay Area Now, our neighborhood version of the Whitney Biennale. Now to my way of thinking, if you or your organization are gifted with an opportunity to strut your stuff at a significant public arts institution like YBCA, you'd want to take complete and unconditional advantage by making an impressive and memorable statement. Why? Because substantial numbers of people will likely be seeing your work for the first time, and you want to make sure that after seeing it they remember who your are and come back for more (or support your cause or give you exposure or whatever your goals might be). Getting accepted is only the beginning; proving you're worthy of acceptance-- that's the real deal.

Cutting to the proverbial chase, some of you crushed it while others could have done better. Making a favorable impression takes hard work and plenty of it; you don't just throw something together. For those of you who felt that merely getting accepted was sufficient validation and that you could coast your way through the rest, better luck next time... assuming there ever is a next time. Among the show's winners are [ 2nd Floor Projects ], Creativity Explored, San Quentin Prison Arts Project, Stairwell's, Adobe Books Backroom Gallery and FOR-SITE Foundation. Unevenness aside, come on down and peruse the noteworthy range of organizations that continually remind us of the infinite ways in which the visual arts can enrich and enhance the quality of our lives.
