Ever Gold Gallery : Charles Linder - Good Cop/Bad Cop.

Review by Clare Coppel: Charles Linder shows prints of erotic vintage Polaroid photographs he discovered in the contents of a storage locker that he bought. The pictures are believed to be the work of a former Oakland police officer, hence the title of the show, Good Cop/Bad Cop. Linder has also created a limited editiopn book of these images bearing the same name-- also worth checking out. In addition, the show features found taxidermy wrapped in colorful duct tape plus three raw bloody defrosting boar heads resting on a low pedestal in the back room, accompanied by a fog machine.

Comment by AB: Charles Linder has a uniquely engaging and unwavering perspective on what constitutes art. I like it. And that, as they say, is that. Go see.

Timezone Gallery : Mike Frick and Amelia Lewis - Do I Look Illegal?

Review by RWM: An intriguing assemblage of portraits by Mike Frick runs along an entire wall of this smallish narrow gallery space. The personalities shine through in spite of being painted on cardbord. Unique characteristics exude from each painting, as these folks come together in a large congregation. One may find the totality almost intimidating.

Michael Rosenthal Gallery : Beyond Arcadia (A Poem for New Jersey).

Artists: Kelsey Nicholson, Karen Barbour, Maya Brym, Pattie Lee Becker.

Review by RWM: The viewer will discover here a variety of ways to experience the natural world. Some see it as a strange and amazing place, some seek to categorize or control, yet others prefer to document. The assembled artists explore wild New Jersey with color and style, at least it seems that way, according to the show's title. Whether the Garden State beckons with the intensity of the Golden State... that's for you to decide.

Artists: Ben Venom, Casey Jex Smith, Glen Baldridge, Harley Lafarrah Eaves, Kevin Taylor, Kyle Ranson, Laurie Steelink, N.Dash, Shelter Serra, Thomas Øvlisen, Vanessa Blaikie.

Comment by AB: Weight perception, the theme of this peppy group show, has to do with how we see and deal with the panoply of grave social, political and environmental situations that confront us today. Good stuff; check it out.

Kaltek : Kal Spelletich - Interactive Robotics/Machine Performance.

Comment by AB: Upon arrival, guests are advised that they "voluntarily assume the risk of serious injury or death" by attending this event. That directive would seem to rule out boredom as an option, and so it does. The highlight of this danger fest? Standing inside a spinning column of fire. For reals!
