Jessica Silverman Gallery : Digital Infinity.

Artists: Aleksandra Domanovic, Carter Mull, Sean Raspet, Hannah Sawtell, Lucie Stah.

Comment by AB: Artists from New York, Los Angeles, London, Berlin and Vienna demonstrate their digital acuity and unique approaches to creating art largely by computer and electronic means. I'm partial to Aleksandra Domanovic's printed paper stacks, but it's all good here. Stop on by.

Dogpatch Cafe & Art Gallery : Konstantin Zlatev - Re-iconizing.

Comment by AB: Konstantin Zlatev uses graphic tape to create bizarre portraits, figures and totems by painstakingly adhering it in intricate symmetrical patterns to surfaces such as drafting film and cardboard.

Romer Young Gallery : With Cinder Blocks We Flatten Our Photographs.

Artists: Deric Carner, C. Wright Daniel, Pablo Guardiola, John Pearson, Jonathan Runcio, Emma Spertus, Letha Wilson.

Comment by AB: The object of the exercise is to start with photography or to otherwise enlist photographic means, with the endgame expectation to reside mainly in the realm of sculpture.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts : Migrating Identities; Kota Ezawa - Boardwalk.

Artists: Ishmael Randall Weeks, Yamini Nayar, Naeem Mohaiemen, Michelle Dizon, Meleko Mokgosi, Ala Ebtekar, Saya Woolfalk, Wangechi Mutu.

Comment by AB: Art about cross-cultural influences on the lives of artists who were either born elsewhere and now live in America, or who were born here but have made numerous extended visits to the homelands of their families, or who otherwise have powerful multicultural components to their lives.

Of note is a sculpture by Ishmael Randall Weeks comprised of used discarded books that have been written about various Latin American revolutions. They're bonded together with the spines visible on one side, the page edges-- possibly sandblasted away-- on the other side, resulting in a layered formation that looks like an ancient weathered canyon wall. Saya Woolfalk's spellbinding psychedelic paint/sculptural/video installations-- starring her-- are also worth a look.

On the patio, designed to be visible from the street, is a 2-dimensional rendition of the Seaside Heights boardwalk by Kota Ezawa, the one destroyed by Hurricane Sandy-- perhaps reminding us of our own fragilities here.

Park Life : Matt Gonzalez - Things I Didnt Know I Loved.

Comment by AB: Matt Gonzales collects all kinds of paper that we throw away-- wrappers, product instructions, plain white sheets and more. He then sorts it out and reconfigures the results not only in terms of aesthetics, but also as opportunities for us all to reflect on our endless reflex acts of tossing stuff into the trash. Somehow the color coding renders the message all the more poignant, encouraging viewers to get up close and do a little reading.
