RayKo Photo Center : Epigraph - Luis Delgado-Qualtrough; Between - Julie Anand and Damon Sauer.

Comment by AB: Photographer Luis Delgado-Qualtrough shows five of his fine artist books (he's got plenty more to his credit as well), along with a select cull of his photographs. Also on the docket are woven photographs by Sonoran Desert (near Phoenix, AZ) artists Julie Anand and Damon Sauer. They finish their weavings with rather cumbersome layers of acrylic, and I'm not so sure I be down wit' 'dat. But the weavings themselves are assuredly impressive.

Comment by AB: Boatloads of worthy art by flotillas of notable artists are on the block tonight for silent and live auction action to benefit the Headlands Center for the Arts, that bulwark of innovative inspiration smack dab in the middle of nowhere, yet only 10 minutes from San Francisco. Can it possibly get any better than that? Yes indeed it can, my artful darlings...

After years of intensive observation, exhaustive research and data analysis, the results are finally in. This Headlands annual fundraiser event has, without question, the best looking confluence of cutie-pies of any art fundraiser in the history of all the art fundraisers I've ever attended. And we're talking fashion plates of all predilections too-- male, female and otherwise. In fact, so many people are so good looking, I have to recalibrate my chastity belt. Naturally, I start blathering this balderdash to everyone I come into contact with, following it up with irritating queries about where they believe these ravishing androids hail from, the consequent conjectures about evenly split between Marin and Pac Heights. I vote Marin.

But wait; there's more. Potential impropriety. At the live auction, I see two galleries bidding on their own art/artists. Now this may be legitimate-- a dealer bidding on behalf of a client. Or it may be otherwise-- bidding with no intention of buying, but rather to see how far they can bump up the hammer prices (which I like to call sport-bidding). Whatever it is, it never looks good. As if that's not enough, a third gallery actually defends this behavior, saying that it's all for a good cause. Yeah right. If I'm bidding at auction, I don't want any pretenders juking with my coinage, no matter how noble the cause.
