The Lab : Francesca Pastine - Alterations; Erika Anderson - Don't You Know There's A War Going On?

Comment by AB: One part of Francesca Pastine's two part art adventure involves her transforming old ArtForum magazines into sculptures by cutting and reshaping them-- an exercise in manipulating the magazine rather than allowing it to manipulate her. For the other part, she pencils out pretty much everything from New York Times newspaper pages, leaving only hints of female forms or other feminesque vestiges-- a commentary on the "invisibility" of women's work. Nicely done on both counts. In the alcove, Erika Anderson presents a video of a cat toying with, killing, and then eating a bird-- from chirp to burp.

Mollusk Surf Shop : Outerlands Art Auction!

Artists: Michelle Blade, Thomas Campbell, Manuel Caro, Alberto Cuadros, Kyle Field, Bryson Gill, Rachel Kaye, Alex Kopps, Barry McGee, Serena Mitnik-Miller, Kyle Mock, Jay Nelson, Hilary Pecis, Caleb Rogers, Nat Russell, Jesse Schlesinger, Bennet Schlesinger, Orion Sheppard, Johanna St. Clair, Mason St. Peter, Rob Streff, David Wilson, more.

Review by Libby Nicholaou: A benefit auction to support the opening of the neighborhood eatery,?Outerlands Cafe. ?A lot of smaller pieces of art up for bid, including ink/pencil drawings and paintings with different washes. T-shirts are given away to the first folks who bid. ?Most pieces sell under $300 with the event drawing more of a social crowd that stays close to midnight with the DJ. ?Overall, the event is a good indicator of how well-known and emerging SF artists advance agendas on a local scale. ?
