    Park Life : Habitat.

Artists: Charlie Callahan, Jeff Canham, David Muller, Jeff Manson, Serena Mitnick-Miller.

Comment by AB: Here a cud for you to mull... "Habitat displays residue collected, constructed, remembered and imagined by five artists whose lifestyles weave carefully chosen elements conceptualized in an idealistic environment. Through painting, drawing, and sculpture the work seeks to join imagined landscapes with details of day-to-day neighborhood living and the allure of the natural world."

    1:AM Gallery : Graphic Attack!

Artists: CernYMI, Ces, Cope2, Cycle, Doze Green, Greg Haberny, Hydro74, KEO TC5, Mare139, Morning Breath, Pure TFP, Queen Andrea, Shepard Fairey, Siloette, Trustocorp, Wane One.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Melissa McCaig Welles and Andrea von Bujdoss, curators of the show, assemble an A-list lineup of 15 top outdoor practitioners. Cool Music, uncompromising messages-- urban style-- and tons of interesting people intermingle here at 1AM's opening. Nearly everything and everyone becomes a courrier of powerful overwhelming imagery. A poignant reflection of our restless, information overload culture.

Jancar Jones Gallery : Videos by Anne Eastman, Maggie Foster, Guthrie Lonergan, Hayley Silverman.

Comment by AB: Your typical artist videos-- reasonably engaging imagery, these being crop shots of ordinary everyday materials in varying states of undulation, and fast-frame abstractions. I have been informed by the gallery that even though I reported the videos as "accompanied by nebulous, unintelligible and largely irrelevant soundtracks," that they were in fact silent. Hey... sometimes my recall plays tricks on me (early onset senility). In any event, I will still take this this opportunity to wax rhetorical about when oh when the audio component (or lack thereof) of artist videos might ever evolve. And while I'm on the topic, presenting a logical progression of events (aka a plot line) wouldn't be too shabby of an idea either... but I don't wanna get too greedy too fast.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts : Patrick Bernier and Olive Martin - Singing the Net.

Comment by AB: Three-screen presentation by Montreal artists Patrick Bernier and Olive Martin investigates how "Internet navigation movement might be translated and captured in sound, text and video." Worth a perusal.

San Francisco Center for the Book : Los Angeles Loteria - An Exploration of Identity.

Artists: Dan McCleary, Ed Wexler, Daniel Gonzalez, 15 more.

Comment by AB: Exhibition of an Aardvark Press limited edition portfolio comprised of letterpress prints by 18 Los Angeles based artists, and done in the style of traditional Los Angeles Loteria cards. A mere $350 buys you the whole shootin' match.

Arc Studios & Gallery : Reframe - Making Sense of Waste.

Artists: Michael Bartalos, David Broom, Alejandra Chaverri, Gregangelo Herrera, Wolfgang Ganter, Rebecca Goldfarb, James Goode, Beth Grossman, Avi Hoen, Judith Selby Lang, Richard Lang, Jose Ramon Lerma, Liz Mamorsky, Noah Wilson.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Reframe, curated by Hannah Regev gives used materials a second life. From books, computer parts, to plastic, fabric and paper, everything is creatively and newly reassembled.

Comment by AB: San Francisco artists continue to be at the forefront of making art out of junk-- and now even music. That's right. Tonight's tunes, courtesy of James Goode, are played entirely on instruments created from recycled materials.

    Michelle O'Connor Gallery : Part & Parcel.

Artists: Jamie Banes, Michael Fairchild, Janine-Opal Fischer, Semar Pro.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: This show is my treasure trove of the day. I'm really fascinated by work. Sculpture, drawing, painting, video and more are presented on a highly sophisticated level. The bench in the middle of the room is constantly in use, since everybody wants to have a second, deeper and more thoughtful look at the projects. Especially the floating, sculptural installation becomes a magnet for the audience.

Painted Bird : From Beyond - Matt Furie.

Review and images by Anneliese Vobis: Matt Furie's art creeps like a timeline along the walls through this busy vintage fashion store. His symbol-rich storytelling imagery, high in detail with precision handwork, evidences his considerable skills at drawing... and the surrounding clothing is fast forgotten.

    SUB-Mission Arts Space : Ingredients.

Artists: Rosesharon Oates, Jim Housley, Shayne Herrera, Carlos Hurtado, Sebastian Hyde, Kevin Evans.

Comment by AB: Another wiggy free-for-all mix at this bastion of iconoclasm, SUB-Mission Arts Space. Special added bonus-- newly refurbished interior sports a spiffy funk bar with assorted ethnic effigies and a ceiling-mounted flame-painted body of a vintage van. Yo!
