SFMOMA Artists Gallery at Fort Mason : Sixteenth Annual Artists' Warehouse Sale, Opening Night.

Comment by AB: Once a year the SFMOMA Artists gallery slashes prices in half on scads, heaps, hoards, loads, masses, aggregations, accumulations, stockpiles and last but certainly not least, mountains of art. So the deal is that on opening night, you pay a nominal fee of ten bucks for the privelege of buying ahead of the herd. But herd, in this case, is a relative term 'cuz there's a herd here tonight too (as always, and regardless of the economic situation). I mean it's a complete zoo. Art's flying off the walls and the tables faster than you can say "Warhol ate my homework." Buyers even hover at the entrance to the storage area vying for first crack at new art as it's brought out onto the floor to replace pieces that have just sold. Yes my darling artsters, this is one of those seminal San Francisco events not to be missed.

(That white one's already sold and it's not even finished yet. Yo!)

Comment by AB: Annual fundraiser for San Francisco Center for the Book offers an extensive selection of artist books, posters, photographs, original art, limited edition publications, pamphlets, broadsides, and more. Good stuff at auction prices, super food and beverages-- and a fine time is had by all.

While I'm on the subject, you aspiring zinesters out there might stop by the Center for the Book sometime and check it out. They offer all kinds of courses, seminars, and learning opportunities on how to print, bind, illustrate, work the machinery, and much more. Upgrade the creative professionality of your literary endeavors here. The SFCB may occasionally come off a mite stodgy to first timers not familar with the place, but believe me-- younger book artists are becoming an increasingly integral part of the mix. The crowd here tonight evidences that.
