Dolby Chadwick Gallery : Suhas Bhujbal - Pune to San Francisco.

Review by Kathryn Arnold: From flat surfaces of muted disturbed grids and color, buildings/residences like slabs of planes appear. The urban subject matter ranges from India to SF, my understanding from the title of the exhibition (from Wikipedia, "Pune, also known as Punya-Nagari, is the eighth largest metropolis in India, the second largest in the state of Maharashtra after Mumbai..."). Suhas Bhujbal perhaps suggests that regardless of who we are or where we live, we really don't look or feel so different. Crowded structures-- beautiful paint handling.

Review by RWM: Here again is the ethnic town, but seen also here is San Francisco. Wonderful color schemes and pastels. Watch out for the rain in the images.

Modernism Gallery : Jacques Villegle - Décollages from the 1960s to 1990s.

Review by Kathryn Arnold: A retrospective of the decollages of Jacques Villegle (from Wikipedia, "Décollage, in art, is the opposite of collage; instead of an image being built up of all or parts of existing images, it is created by cutting, tearing away..."). Using the names of French streets and other locations for titles, the works convey a sense of layers and layers of paper ads near metro walls or billboards coming undone, layer after layer-- as in an unpeeling of the city street and its reference to the culture/events it portrays over time. I notice a quoting of Dubuffet in the use of one of the red/white/blue images.

Comment by AB: Good show; check it out.

111 Minna Gallery : Presence of Absence.

Artists: Tim Schafer, Rockford Orvin, Jhina Alvarado, Sergio Navaro-Duran.

Comment by AB: What's presence of absence, you ask? The presence of the absence of color. At least that's what I think.

Spoke Art Gallery : Rod Luff - The Moleskine Project.

Comment by AB: Australian artist Rod Luff fills a Moleskine notebook with sketches, drawings, paintings and more during the course of a year, and then takes the pages and shows them here. The verdict? Good artist; good art.

Ever Gold Gallery : Adam Parker Smith - Crush.

Comment by AB: This dude, New York artist Adam Parker Smith, is kinda like the Weird Al Yankovic of art. Art's so serious all the time, so why not have a little fun? Here, it's fun. Amble on by and have a chuckle on Smith.

12 Gallagher Lane : Introducing Artist Joey DeRuy.

Comment by AB: A diverse stylistic compositional mix likely reflects artist Joey DeRuy's equally multifaceted upbringing in Hong Kong, Kenya, Montana and Maine.

FFDG : Henry Gunderson Solo Show.

Comment by AB: Henry Gunderson's impressive colored pencil work shines here, but he offers up a little bit of everything including a bulletin board assemblage, "art" for as little as $1, and an work on paper framed in a wrapped Ace bandage.
