George Lawson Gallery : Judith Belzer - Paths of Desire.

Comment by AB: Dynamic imaginative abstracted landscapes by Judith Belzer address the effects of industry and human endeavors on the environment. Even though in reality the endings aren't always pretty, she presents her aerial observations in exceptionally appealing ways, perhaps hinting at the seductive yet potentially catastrophic consequences of too much manmade meddling with the natural order of things. Stop on by; good arrt.

CULT - Aimee Friberg Exhibitions : Gathering into Being - Michelle Blade.

Comment by AB: Los Angeles artist Michelle Blade concocts an indeterminate reality in silhouette, a place where everything blends. The works in this exhibit appear to be more about spirit and essence than cold hard facts. Yes, you can identify shapes, subjects and objects, but here you have the opportunity to look inside and contemplate life from within rather than judge based solely on outward appearances as we so often do. Go see.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Room for Big Ideas: Social in Practice - YBCA/Art Practical Artist Residency.

    Artists: Shalini Agrawal, Chris Treggiari.

Comment by AB: This participatory installation by Shalini Agrawal and Chris Treggiari researches and examines the practice of various artists "in an effort to create accessibility and understanding for a larger audience." I'm not quite sure what the parameters of this larger audience are, but one of them seems to be an MFA-level understanding of what social practice is all about. If we're talking about larger audiences, it's always good to begin by presenting the event in language that anyone can understand, not insider art jargon. Also on the docket will be the introduction of the YBCA/Art Practical 2014 Artist in Residency Award Winners, Dee Hibbert-Jones and Nomi Talisman.
