Anno Domini Gallery : Bruno 9li; M dot Strange.

Comment: Bruno 9li constructs mysterious characters and abstract scenery in elaborate ink drawings. He is inspired by alchemical imagery and by his neighborhood in Porto Alegro, South Brazil. He says that his work is about mystery and the moment of enlightenment.

M dot Strange presents the entire set and process for his last animated film "We are the Strange" which was just shown his Sundance premiere. Seeing his show is like walking behind the scenes where he exposes the secrets of his ice cream loving characters created out of simple dolls with plastic and cardboard accessories. His impressive one-man production manages to give life and mystery to these characters using very simple means. These images are then videoed and placed into a fantastic complex animated space.

Kaleid Gallery : Charlotte Kruk n' Kempken - Her, She Says; Ema Sintamarian - It's OK to Bother People... How Could I Live Without Ads?

Comment: Charlotte Kruk n' Kempken defines herself as a "Junque Artist belonging to a community scouring the city dumps for discarded treasure, diving in the dumpsters of industry's empires, and looking sideways at the 'trash' with clever introspection." She creates sculptures and panels by transforming familiar Hershey's trash into the fantastic, and in so doing, opens a dialog on packaging, brand association, and the environment. She says, "My artwork incorporates genuinely purchased, meticulously unwrapped, consumed and conscientiously collated consumer product packaging. Each element of 'trash' is carefully stitched together side by side to create new textiles."

Ema Sintamarian is a young artist who came here from Rumania seven years ago. She holds an MFA in Printmaking from Delaware University and a second MFA in Painting from San Jose State University. By using cultural iconography, and by superimposing recognizable with more abstracted similes, she creates a matrix of polyphonic images. In this way she offers the viewer personal stories rather than didactic answer.
