Comment by AB: Respectable show of festive pop-esque paintings and limited edition prints by Richard Lindner, most from later in his career, harks me back to the colorful carefree idealistic heyday of the sixties. Works on exhibit include a major painting which was once (and still possibly) in the collection of Max Palevsky. Sorry-- it's not for sale. Almost all other works are available for purchase, with prices on the limited edition prints starting around $3800. Surprisingly good show; recommended.

Michael Rosenthal Gallery : Terry Hoff - All That Happens in the Sky.
Comment by AB: According to the handout, Terry Hoff's abstract paintings concern "a questioning of suburban American 'ideals' and the want to get beyond the ties of gravity, to a place that separates us from what is above and what is below." I'm not sure what that means, but OK-- I'll go along with it. And while I'm at it, I might as well add that Hoff's vibrant energized compositions plausibly lay out the parameters of this hypothetical 'place' he's referring to.
In the intrigue department, last Thursday in the dead of night, theives broke into the gallery and stole four of the paintings (and nothing else). By Saturday, all four had been recovered by the San Francisco police. Don't you just love happy endings? I sure do.

White Walls Gallery : Alex Lukas - And Another Shall Rise To Take Her Place.
Review by R.W. Miller: It is sobering and worrisome to see our world cities underwater as predicted by scientific global warming studies. The most recent research I have read concludes a five foot rise by the end of the century. In some sense Alex Lukas's show is a treatise on who is to blame, and about our need to adapt to a changing world. The drowned cities are joined by empty and abandoned fields that have grown back. Fervent nature will take it's opportunities to grow again in part erasing out our human bootprint. The dire predictions suggest that not all of us will have our favorite places survive. A lot of change is on the way and we need be prepared. Here the alarm is sounded.

Review by R.W. Miller - images c/o Studio Gallery: It is so filling to see such a variety of work about all the food choices out there. Some artworks are realistic, others abstract, some funny, and others mouthwatering. The still lifes and realistic works make one want to eat the food off the paintings. The art is at times sensuous and tempting, but not always serious. Rice-a-Roni is memorialized, for example. Cows from the paintings look on. Artichokes and Avocados reign. There is also quite a spread for those in attendance.
