111 Minna Gallery : Troy Paiva - Lost America; Fairy Tale Animals - Peter Samuels
Comment by AB: Troy Paiva explores the desolate Southwest deserts in search of abandoned artifacts. He photographs them at night, using a combination of time exposures and his own lighting to create arrestingly unreal effects. No Photoshop whatsoever for Paiva; he does it all the old fashioned way. In the side gallery, Peter Samuels photographs animals against completely blank backgrounds requiring viewers to focus their full attention on the subjects rather than their surroundings. Good show on both counts.
