Comment by AB: Each individual piece in Sadie Barnette's show is as much a way of seeing, interpreting or contemplating an aspect of reality as it is a work of art. A blurred photograph signifies the archtypal rap group, a vintage stereo receiver partially buried in dirt signifies recent advances in how we listen to music, and so on.

[ 2nd floor projects ] : Mariah Garnett - Encounters I May Or May Not Have Had With Peter Berlin; Kevin Killian - Eyes on the Prize; Frank Smigiel - The Death of a Disco Dancer (essay, limited edition chapbook).
Comment by AB: Mariah Garnett runs an endless reel of 16mm film through two opposing projectors and places a rotating mirror ball directly between the two. The reflected projections fill the room with multitudes of swirling mini-movies. In the hallway, Kevin Killian's photo installation consists of men covering their genitals, but in place of the classic figleaf, are using a Raymond Pettibon drawing of a penis instead.

SF Camerawork : T. H. T. K. - A Solo Show by Jason Lazarus.
Comment by AB: Chicago artist Jason Lazarus displays and discourses on his archive of photographs that people have deemed "too hard to live with." Despite the nuance on basic throwaways, I'm not sure how much the phenomenon is worth investigating, let alone rhapsodizing over. I mean we already know why we get rid of stuff we don't want including stuff we can no longer live with, right?

Ligne Roset : Raymond Difley.
Review by RWM: Playful abstracts; the canvasses are on fire in mostly red and orangish. Though not a lot of attention to detail, there is something to explore in these works which provide movement and may be a catalyst for those searching for a release. Without intention, they fascinate.
