Comment by AB: In the China Brotsky Gallery, actually a long hallway, Jennifer Ewing shows what she calls "Spirit Boats" in both paintings and sculptures. She tells me that these boats represent life's transitions or in other words, sooner or later we're all gonna take a voyage in one.
In The Seed Gallery, a hallway perpendicular to the China Brotsky Gallery, is a group show that's supposedly themed, but don't ask me how. At least the art's good. Anyway, here's the statement; you figure it out. "Through expansive photographic mediums, intricate fabrication, and arresting measures of sculptural exploration, these artists lead us through various parts of the world, move through historical lineage, and delve into cultural integration." Is there a writer in the house?
These galleries have DEFINITELY gotta upgrade their lighting.

SF Camerawork : Sarah Christianson - When the Landscape is Quiet Again, North Dakota's Oil Boom.
Review by RWM: Great testament to the damage we are doing to our environment. One might expect that landscape paintings and photographs can depict the devastation we have caused. Certainly the wildlife notices the encroachment upon their territory. Damage is usually not what people want to see though, with most of us preferring beauty.
The wild natural landscape can inspire and alleviate inner turmoil. It can heal. We are, however, causing more destruction than we recognize. Even the slight alterations presented in this exhibit are painful to look at. Modern landscape paintings and photographs do not necessarily have to be about recovery, but these images document an important message about a process that continues to haunt us.
