Comment by AB: William Wiley's intricate labyrinthine compositions are loaded with goodies. Each one is like a self-contained reality that you can wander around in for years, always discovering something new. Add to this the fact that Wiley incorporates text in such an unobtrusive way that phrases like "text-based art" don't really apply. The words and letters are more like brushstrokes than anything else, effortlessly enhancing the aesthetics rather than interfering with the overall visual impact. Plenty to see here and it's all excellent. Love this show so much that I'm gonna slap a Pick of First Thursday/Friday/Saturday on it.

Jack Fischer Gallery : Winter Work - Tony Fitzpatrick and Heather Wilcoxon.
Review by RWM: Nice two-person show with birds in interesting situations by Tony Fitzpatrick and engagingly chaotic sea voyages by Heather Wilcoxon. Fun to see the birds in strange contexts; they do complete the images. Wilcoxon's seas are almost metaphorical and symbolic. A reminder about the natural world which is processed here by society and the city. Creatures do not find the solitude they would necessarily like to experience.
Comment by AB: Fine vibrant color etchings by Tony Fitzpatrick are contrasted by Heather Wilcoxon's wild otherworldly scenarios brimming with action. Worth a visit.

George Lawson Gallery : Donald Martiny.
Review by RWM: Giant splashes of art for your walls. You might appreciate the minimalism, Claus Oldenburg style. These swaths are larger than life and viewers can enjoy the shapes as well as the colors. The works will transform a room and alter your conversation. They did take some time to produce with all that paint having to dry. In some sense they are almost like paint sculptures. Great abstractions which move beyond the canvas.
Comment by AB: Donald Martiny's polymer and pigment painting/sculptures are surprisingly durable and intensely energetic. Stop on by.
