Corden Potts Gallery : Cocoons - Peter Steinhauer.

Comment by AB: Singapore-based photographer Peter Steinhauer documents the wrapped buildings of Hong Kong. No-- it's not Christo and Jeanne-Claude; it's traditional fabric covered bamboo scaffolding used on construction sites.

Paul Mahder Gallery : Neo Magic Realism - Omar d'Leon & Andrea Yomtob.

Review by and images by Anneliese Vobis: Two artists with very similar approaches to painting? Yes. Andrea Yamtob was Omar D'Leon's student. His strong influence on her style can be found in every work. The vibrant paintings consist of multiple layers with scratched (etched) surfaces-- painting meets printmaking in single works. Rich orange tones contrast with many blue tones in a Gauguin/Picasso-esque style. Sensual organic shaped fruit and animal imagery leads us to far away destinations... artworks really to be seen.

111 Minna Gallery : Harum Scarum - David Ball, Jesse Balmer, Katherine Brannock.

Review by Mairead O'Connor: David Ball, Jesse balmer and Katherine Brannock come together to exhibit their otherworldly creatures and settings. Ball's hyper-creative, precisely constructed collages are a must-see. There is plenty of color, action and overall feeling to this work.

Spoke Art Gallery : Unreal Estate - Tim Doyle.

Review by Mairead O'Connor: Tim Doyle recreates those places from popular culture that we have all grown so familiar with over the years like Sesame Street, Seinfeld and The Sopranos. There is a sense of 1950s nostalgia to his very contemporary work.

Ever Gold Gallery : Josh Short - Bomb Shelter Radio and Tenderloin Self Defense Club.

Comment by AB: Josh Short transforms the gallery into a metalhead's paradise complete with loft, voodoo radio, a ghetto blaster espresso machine, workout facilities, a sound palace, kinetic signage, a cardboard owl to work the night shift, and sundry other brain bending diversions. This one's a yes.
