Andrea Schwartz Gallery : Alex Couwenberg - New Paintings.

Comment by AB: Los Angeles artist Alex Couwenberg's smooth polished streamlined abstractions, certainly an evolvement of LA hard-edge (Lorser Feitelson in particular), are influenced by that sunny Southern California ethos-- hot rod and custom car culture, surf and skateboard lifestyles, and freeform aspects of mid-century design. To accentuate the genuineness of it all, I'm told he incorporates actual auto painting techniques into his work. Well done.
