Review by Clare Coppel: Huge 5th International Juried Plastic Camera Show at RayKo. OMG, so many people at the opening. Many beautiful and haunting images. Yeah, you could probably come up with an app, but there is a quality of stillness in photographs like this that digital media hasn't been able to duplicate yet... the prints are lovely.
Comment by AB: The ground rules are that all photographs must be taken with cheap plastic cameras like the Holga, Diana or Sprocket Rocket. Thousands of photographs are entered; the top 100 are on display here. And they're all good. Check this show out. One of RayKo's most popular annual events.

Comment by AB: Notable local artists are invited to draw live; models change about every 15 minutes or so. The resulting figure studies are immediately available for sale at prices in the vicinity of $50 each-- and they're going fast. Examples of more finished figural works by the participating artists are on display around the gallery. Sorry-- not allowed to photograph any of the models.

Comment by AB: We're all beautiful; that's the deal here. What a refreshing change from the profusion of depressing downbeat art that permeates the atmosphere. Artists from across the country are participating. In the rear gallery, Porous Walker has created 300 protest signs, each one bearing the words "You Are Beautiful," to be used in a protest on the corner of 24th and Mission on February 11 from 2-5.
