a.Muse Gallery : Primo - The art of David and Hugh D'Andrade.

Comment by AB: Giant kitties and curious characters materialize from the mind of Hugh D'Andrade while David D'Andrade arts up a selection of fluid streamline abstractions. For those of you keeping score at home, the two artists are cousins.

Steven Wolf Fine Arts : Whitney Lynn - Sculptures Involontaires; Jeffrey Augustine Songco - Public Displays of Affection.

Review by Clare Coppel: Jeffrey Augustine Songco essays on the topics of romance, sex and religion in a playful manner. His media include "peace poles," plastic containers and deflated balloon animals which are strangely endearing. Ominous traps by Whitney Lynn such as a mysterious basket-type ball. Many of the pieces are on the floor; one might step on them, but everyone seems to give them their space.

Comment by AB: In the front gallery, sculptures by Whitney Lynn play off of the idea of traps-- the kinds used to catch animals and other creatures for a variety of purposes. In the rear gallery, Jeffrey Songco imagines a world where religion and "Queerdom" coexist in peace, harmony and even mutual admiration. His expressive options include a walk-around installation of upbeat adages on posts accented at their bases with black leather collars, and former balloon animals, now sans air and neatly mounted on black velvet. Worth stopping by on both counts.

Review by Clare Coppel: Minimal rainbow shapes drawn and painted on paper by Treasure Frey, and scenes of forests, childlike as in fairytales, by Kyle Jorgensen.

Eleanor Harwood Gallery : Gareth Spor - New Works.

Comment by AB: Gareth Spor shows glittery precision "pendulum paintings" (the paint applied via a swinging pendulum), digital reconfigurations of notable works of Op Art, and a decolorized reproduction-- completely accurate, including chips and wear-- of a Victor Vasarely sculpture that's been sitting in a public park in Hungary for over 30 years.
